Figure skater Daniel Samsonov explained to why he repeated the solo jump in the free skate during the final stage of the Russian Grand Prix in Moscow, breaking the rules.
Samsonov took third place at the Moscow Grand Prix stage, scoring 265.33 points for both programs. On Sunday, in the free program, he jumped two identical jumps solo; this error cost him about two points.
Earlier, at the Kazan Grand Prix stage, Samsonov finished sixth (226.62).
— Evaluate your rental. Why couldn’t you jump the quadruple Salchow?
“I’m happy to have managed to get on the podium, but not without a bit of luck.” I was 60% satisfied with the rental. There was still a bit of excitement, so the salchow didn’t work and stayed a bit ahead, even though I had already landed on my foot and was waiting for the exit. But everything is already in the past.
I am happy that so many spectators came to the free skate. It was nice to hear their support.
— Did you count the jumps when you were skating? How come you did the triple flip?
— I counted the jumps in solo format, but I didn’t calculate where it was best to do the stunts. It wasn’t until the end of the song that I realized I’d forgotten I had two solo flips.
— Have you managed to achieve the goals you set for these competitions?
— I have not set myself any particular objectives for this stage. The most important thing was to enjoy your performances, enjoy the atmosphere of the big arena and give people emotions. We managed to do it!
— Two stages of the Russian Grand Prix series have passed. What conclusions can we draw from this?
“I’m happy to have been able to perform on two stages of the Grand Prix first of all, unlike last year. I’m happy that I managed to qualify for the Russian championship. I’m a little upset that I don’t have a single place to go to Spartakiad. Now I am the first reserve, but at the same time I am happy to improve my results with each performance,” Samsonov told .
