Sergei Mokhnik responded to criticism of Shakhtar U-19 head coach Alexei Belik
Deputy General Director Dynamo Sergei Mokhnik responded to criticism of Shakhtar U-19 head coach Alexey Belik regarding the postponement of Dynamo U-19’s away games with several opponents to the base in Kyiv.
“We actually changed fields with several teams for several reasons, the main one was the request of the coaching staffs of the U-18 and U-19 teams, related to simplifying logistics before difficult trips and a long road. Friendly tournament in the Czech Republic? Eight Dynamo players, the backbone of the team. Friendly tournament in Korea? Nine Dynamo players and again the backbone of the team! While those who “criticize” us did not send a single player to the national team. Why? They probably wanted it that way. Perhaps personal interests are more important than the interests of the country.”
“What happened in the qualification for Euro 2024 (U-19)? Our players again played a key role in defeating Slovakia and Malta and winning their qualifying group. Long journeys, flights, difficulties with logistics, etc.”
“We always meet national teams halfway, and I don’t see anything wrong with the fact that we exchanged pitches with a number of our rivals for the benefit of the national team, our club and the players themselves. I hasten to reassure those who are terribly worried about this – in the spring we will play against these same opponents on their fields.”
“I’m speaking directly. Please note that we beat all the leaders of the U-19 standings – Rukh, Shakhtar and Dnepr-1 – with the same score (2:0) in calendar matches that no one rescheduled. And they didn’t miss a single goal. Some do their job, while others are always getting in the way.”
