James Toney: In my era, people like Usik were destroyed left and right

Former world champion is skeptical of today’s top boxers

Former world champion in three weight categories James Toney criticized future participants in the fight for the title of absolute heavyweight champion – Ukrainian Alexandra Usika and the British Tyson Fury.

“Tyson Fury should be ashamed of himself” [в бою против Нганну]. Now he is the best in the world, then Wilder, then Joshua. Honestly, I don’t know who else.”

“Tendril? Oh, he’s trash… At the right time, at the right moment. If he had existed in my era, he would have been destroyed left and right. We would destroy almost all of today’s people. Could they be competitive in my era? In the seventies or eighties? Hell no!”

The fight between WBC heavyweight title holder Fury and WBO/WBA/IBF/IBO world champion Usyk will officially take place on February 17 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Initially, the event was planned to be organized on December 23. However, it later became clear that the “Gypsy King” would not have time to prepare for this time after the fight with Francis Ngannou at the end of October.

Fury defeated Ngannou via split decision. It was reported that the Briton received two cuts in a fight with the former UFC champion.

Usik fought his last fight on August 27 in Wroclaw, Poland. The Ukrainian knocked out Daniel Dubois in the 9th round and defended his championship titles.
