Olympic figure skating champion Natalya Bestemyanova praised her performance Kamila Valieva in the free program of the 6th stage of the Russian Grand Prix in Moscow.
Kamila Valieva won the Russian Grand Prix in Moscow on Sunday. The 17-year-old figure skater fell while performing a quadruple toe loop and triple lutz in the free skate, but took the final first place, scoring a total of 226.22 points. Veronika Yametova took second place (212.75), Sofya Muravyova took third (210.25).
— Kamila Valieva fell twice and still became the first. Did you like his performance?
— Valieva was very good in the short program, and in the free program she was above her two weeks ago. And this is encouraging, because we are all distressed by how the events of the last year and a half have affected the girl, and we are very concerned about the terrible injustice to a unique talent. Kamila looked much better than in Kazan, and that gives me confidence that she will be able to regain what she recently lost.
– Could anyone compete with her for primacy?
— If Sofya Muravyova had skipped two triples, she probably would have competed with Valieva. As a result, she did not even retain second place, making an additional jump. She wanted to score more points, but instead they were deducted from her.
— Who do you consider to be the women’s favorite of the season? There is, after all, Adelia Petrosyan, who, on the one hand, confidently won the stages in Ufa and Omsk, on the other hand, made obvious mistakes when executing her programs.
— Our skaters are very different. Petrosyan is good in all her manifestations, Muravyova is incredible. In the remaining month before the national championship, Valieva will get back into shape. I know that it will be very interesting both at the New Year’s championship in Chelyabinsk and at the Spartakiad of the Strongest in February,” Bestemyanova was quoted as saying by the information service of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC).
Valieva is an Olympic champion in team competitions and a European champion.
