The miners continue to fight for the playoffs in the Champions League
Winger Shakhtar Alexander Zubkov summed up the results of the confrontation with Antwerp in the fifth round of the Champions League (1:0). The midfielder stressed that the Donetsk club is expecting a decisive match with Porto.
“There is joy in the fact that we will continue to fight for a place in the knockout stages of the Champions League. This is a great result, so we will continue to work.”
“It’s really nice. I think the whole team worked very hard. Each player fought for each other until the last minute. The whole team deserves praise.”
“We have nine points, so at the moment we can afford to dream a little about reaching the Champions League playoffs. The match with Porto will be a decisive game, filled with emotions. We will only strive for victory.”
Zubkov was the author of the assist on Nikolai Matvienko in the reporting game. Note that UEFA recognized Alexander as the best player of the match.
Shakhtar is in third place in Group H. The Donetsk club has nine points – the same as Porto, which is ahead of Shakhtar in additional indicators.
The miners guaranteed themselves participation in European competitions in the spring. The final place of Marino Pusic’s team, on which the further tournament (play-offs of the Champions League or Europa League) will depend, will be determined after the last round.
The Pitmen will play the final match of the 2023/24 Champions League group stage against Porto on December 13.
