Debut triumph of the Ukrainian team in the group stage of the European Cup
Prometheus won the first victory in the group tournament Women’s Volleyball Champions League. In the third round, the Ukrainian team beat the Romanian team away Albu Blaj – 3:2.
The confrontation turned out to be as dramatic as possible. Ivan Petkov’s team managed to snatch victory in the first set – 25:23, but then lost in the next two games.
And yet the Ukrainians managed to make a comeback. The fourth set was an even fight, but the ending went better for Prometheus. The tie-break was held under the sign of the visiting team, which managed to get its debut victory in the current Women’s Champions League.
Having scored two points, Petkov’s team failed to rise from fourth place, but significantly improved its tournament prospects. On December 5, Prometheus will play away against Polish Lodz.
The group winner will directly advance to the quarter finals of the Champions League. The second teams of all five groups, as well as the best among third places, will compete for three more tickets to the quarterfinals. Four more teams that took third place will continue to compete in the quarterfinals of the CEV Cup.
