The Badminton World Federation (BWF) has suspended the Russian National Badminton Federation’s membership in the organization, according to the BWF’s official website.
The decision was made at a BWF council meeting on November 11, 2023.
— The National Badminton Federation of Russia violated the conditions of membership of the BWF by including in its jurisdiction territories that fall under the jurisdiction of another federation recognized by the international community. We are talking about the territories of Donetsk, Kherson, Lugansk and Zaporozhye,” the message says.
It also notes that “the procedure allowing players with Russian passports to participate in BWF-sanctioned tournaments as independent neutral athletes remains in effect.” The BWF will change its procedures to allow direct registration of these players.
At the end of August, the BWF announced that athletes from Russia and Belarus would be allowed to compete as neutral individual athletes in tournaments starting February 26, 2024.
