Athletistic/ Artistic gymnastics. The General Assembly of the European Gymnastics Union held its next meeting. This time it took place in Sofia (Bulgaria).

During the meeting, a vote was taken on the issue of admitting athletes and officials from Russia and Belarus to competitions under the auspices of European gymnastics from January 1, 2024. By a majority of votes, it was decided not to allow athletes and officials from these countries.

Interestingly, the decision of the European Gymnastics Union contradicts the decision of the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG), which recently allowed Russian and Belarusian athletes to participate in international competitions with a neutral status from 1 January 2024.

Sanctions against gymnasts from Russia and Belarus were applied based on the requirements of the IOC from February 25, 2022. It is clarified that all bans will remain in force until the end of the military training of the Russian armed forces in Ukraine .
