The General Assembly of European Gymnastics voted against the admission of Russians and Belarusians to official competitions from 2024

The European governing body therefore did not implement the earlier decision of the FIG – International Gymnastics Federation

General Assembly of European Gymnastics voted against allowing athletes and officials from Russia and Belarus to return to official European gymnastics competition from 1 January 2024.

Thus, the Assembly went against the decision International Gymnastics Federation (FIG). Let us remind you that in July the FIG executive committee allowed Russian and Belarusian athletes to compete under the auspices of the organization in a neutral status.

Then it was reported that representatives of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus, who will receive the status of “individual neutral athlete,” will have the right to participate in FIG competitions from January 1, 2024. Thus, they will miss the world championships scheduled for 2023.

Even earlier, the Executive Committee of the International Olympic Committee recommended the return of Russian and Belarusian athletes to international competitions in a neutral status. At the same time, teams from Russia and Belarus are not allowed to participate in tournaments, as well as athletes who support the war or have a contract with the armies of the Russian Federation or Belarus.

In the early hours of February 24, 2022, Russia launched rocket and air strikes on most Ukrainian cities and then launched a full-scale military invasion. The war against Russia has continued for the 646th day.
