The Ukrainian team will take part in the Euro short course for the first time in four years
Ukrainian swimmer Mikhail Romanchukmedalist of the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo, shared his plans for the coming European Championship 2023and also spoke about the goals and objectives for the Olympic season.
“I had a long rest, I didn’t train for two months, so it was hard. It was quite difficult to get into the training camp. Now we are at an international training camp in the mountains of France, and it’s still not easy. But we talked to a coach who says: “When was it easy?” (laughs). Therefore, we are working, trying to squeeze it out. Let’s see”.
“This is a decision [поехать на Евро-2023] it came naturally. After all, you need to show results and represent Ukraine. Do it all as best you can, no matter who will be there and how hard it will be. After all, I’ve been preparing for a short period of time. In the end, although these competitions will be very important, they are still more preparatory for the World Championships and the Olympic Games. This will be the first start since July. There I will swim 800 and 1500 meters freestyle. Nothing drastic was invented or changed.”
“Tasks for the Euro? There are no minutes or seconds for which it should be released. I need to swim and enjoy the results, how I did it technically and speed. If there is a medal, it will be great.”
“My morale is now much more stable, I know why I’m working, what I want and how. So, probably, all this helps me wake up every day, go and jump into this cold water.”
“This is already the Olympic season, it has already begun for me. The challenges are high. We all understand perfectly well that a lot of young, fast and talented guys have emerged. It will be much more difficult to replicate the results. We will do everything to represent Ukraine as well as possible on the international stage.”
“One of the main reasons for my return was that I missed home, my family and friends incredibly much. Of course, everyone was happy that I was returning to my homeland.”
Let us remind you that 27-year-old Romanchuk was included in the Ukrainian national team for the 2023 European Short Course Swimming Championship. Together with him, the team included Alexander Zheltyakov, Denis Kesil, Vladislav Bukhov, Maxim Ovchinnikov and Vadim Naumenko.
The continental championship will take place from December 5 to 10 in Otopeni, Romania. On the first day of the competition, Romanchuk will compete for a medal in the 400 m freestyle.
The Ukrainian team will take part in the short course Euro for the first time in four years. In 2021, Ukraine refused to compete in the Russian Kazan.
