Shakhtar appointed Dutchman Van der Weerden as assistant head coach

The 51-year-old specialist joined the staff of Marino Pusic

Miner appointed a Dutchman as the new assistant head coach Chris van der Weerden. The 51-year-old specialist has already joined the coaching staff of Marino Pusic.

Van der Weerden played as a player for Nijmegen, Vitesse, PSV and a number of other clubs. Chris became the Dutch champion three times and won the Dutch and Belgian cups, as well as other trophies.

Since 2006, he worked as a coach with the youth teams of PSV, and then moved to the coaching staff of the main team. Van der Weerden worked as Philip Cocu’s assistant at PSV, then moved with him to Fenerbahce, Derby County and Vitesse.

At the end of October, Shakhtar officially announced the appointment of Marino Pusic as head coach. His coaching staff also included Andrei Pyatov and Mario Stanic. Later, physical training coach Roel Tamber and assistant coach Jeroen Schepens joined the team.

Shakhtar ranks fourth in the UPL with 25 points. In the next match, the Miners will play Metalist 1925 on December 3.
