Olympic champion Alina Zagitova responded to the death of former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.
During a speech on Friday Abe, 67, was attacked in the city of Nara, the politician was shot twice. Abe was hospitalized in critical condition, diagnosed with cardiac and lung arrest, the politician later died.

The athlete knew Abe personally. In 2018 in Moscow, a Japanese delegation led by Abe presented Zagitova with an Akita Inu dog. A year later, Abe received Zagitova at his residence, the athlete gave the politician a stuffed dog of the Akita Inu breed.
