2018 Olympic figure skating champion Alina Zagitova said that from the beginning of her sports career she strived to participate in the Games, these competitions being her main goal.

On Saturday, Zagitova received the award for the best Russian athlete of the 2018 Games as part of the annual gala evening of the Russian Athletes’ Union, organized with the support of the Russian Sports Ministry and the Russian Olympic Committee.

— The Olympic Games have been a dream throughout my career. We train from morning to evening for this purpose. When we achieve a goal, we are very happy. Without my team, I would not have been able to reach such heights. “I thank my team, the family coaches and the figure skating federation,” Zagitova said during the ceremony.

At the Pyeongchang Olympics, the silver medalist in the figure skating tournament was also a Russian, Evgenia Medvedeva.

The event takes place at the International Sambo and Boxing Center. It is dedicated to the 55th anniversary of the Olympic Games in Mexico and Grenoble, the 35th anniversary of the Olympic Games in Calgary and Seoul, the 25th anniversary of the Olympic Games in Nagano, the 15th anniversary of the Olympic Games in Beijing, the 5th anniversary of the Olympic Games Pyeongchang Olympics and the year since the Beijing Olympics.
