Olympic figure skating champion Roman Kostomarov said now he feels differently on the ice, but plans to skate and perform.
On Saturday, December 2, an open dialogue “Iron Will and Technologies for Life” takes place with Kostomarov within the framework of the “Russia” forum in the “Made by Us” pavilion of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Federation from Russia to VDNKh. Since January this year, the skater has suffered several amputations after being hospitalized.
— First impressions of going on the ice?
— These are completely new impressions. I don’t smell ice cream like I used to. Not much happens. I understand that things will improve from training to training. I already like the fact that I can feel the glide and the speed, the cold wind on my face. I train 1-2 times a week. I just started trying my hand on ice. I had to get bigger boots and skates, regular figure skates.
I’m going to try to skate, but I definitely won’t be able to skate like I used to. I lost the parts of my body that I needed.
I already tried to go on the ice. Now I can perform in ice shows as a star, because I skate the same way now (laughs).
I will definitely go out on the ice. I want something to work out for me, I don’t want to skate on the ice like a “bear”. “I can’t see myself without sport,” reports the correspondent, according to Kostomarov’s words.
Kostomarov, together with Tatyana Navka, won the 2006 Turin Olympics in ice dancing, became a two-time world champion and a three-time European champion.
