Olympic ice dancing champion in 1988, choreographer Natalya Bestemyanova believes that young skaters’ desire to emulate famous athletes limits their potential.
– Is it worth taking the music or the idea from the program, under which someone has already won? It happens all the time in figure skating. It even annoys me a bit. Young athletes very often ask to put together a program for Yuzuru Khanya, or Shoma Uno, or Anna Shcherbakova, or Alexandra Trusova, Alina Zagitova, Evgenia Medvedeva… It limits the athletes themselves so much that it just terrifies me. But this promotion of well-known “brands” by television ends up limiting the list of music in figure skating a bit, ”Bestemyanova told the Championship.
