Angelina Melnikova who won the all-around Russian Artistic Gymnastics Cup, said she had no time to miss the competition, noting she was not yet thinking about ending her career.
Olympic champion Melnikova won the Russian Cup all-around in Kaluga, scoring 110.431 points and edging second-placed Vladislava Urazova by more than a point (109.397). Urazova was in the lead after three events (96.397), Melnikova trailed her by 0.199 points (96.198). In the floor exercises, Angelina for the first time performed the first diagonal without an additional mat. This exercise earned him a score of 14.233.
– I was a little nervous on the beam, my base flew, they took 0.7 points, because the first element was not counted. The fall? I didn’t train a lot, only three weeks before the competition is very little.
– What did you have in mind in front of the free men, when in three tests they were 0.2 points behind Vlada Urazova?
– Before the exit, there was a dilemma in my head, which I did not speak to the coach, I thought of going to do a simplified program, because the condition was not very good. The wrestling was on the inside, but when I raised my hand I realized I had to go through the full program.
– Are you satisfied with the service?
– In general, I’m satisfied, although the physical condition is not very good, because I haven’t trained a lot. I have no stamina, I’m almost out of character now.
– Today, it was noticeably colder in the room, compared to the previous days, did this facilitate the performance?
– Breathing is easier, but I can’t say it’s noticeably easier for me to perform. It’s been tough so far.
– The rest is felt?
– During six months of rest, stamina fell almost to zero. It’s the first time I’ve done my ten combinations, you could say the first time. Hence the fall.
– When was it more difficult – in qualifying or today?
– In qualifying, I expected to perform better, on adrenaline. But, the court on my freedom, it was hard. Today – seems to be difficult too, but fair on character.
– Have these six months allowed you to restart psychologically?
– Yes, for six months I completely disconnected from gymnastics.
– Bored?
– I can’t say that. I missed, perhaps, the sensations, but not the complex preparation.
– Don’t feel like sitting in the lobby?
– Of course not. I don’t think he will appear (laughs).
– How does the lack of prospects for international departures affect this?
– It’s hard to accept. Previously, for example, the Russian Cup was a passing departure, a preparation for the European Championship, but now it turns out that this is the main thing. And it is difficult to readjust psychologically.
– Many athletes say that they have stopped watching international competitions, that they have become uninteresting. What are you saying?
– Well no, the European Championship is coming soon and I will follow the girls.
– Nagorny said that if we were not allowed to go to Paris, he would end his career. Have you thought about that?
“To be honest, I haven’t thought about such a situation, so far, I hope for the best,” Melnikova told reporters.
