The level of junior figure skating has increased, believes Zheleznyakov

Choreographer Alexey Zheleznyakov disagrees with the opinion that the current generation of young figure skaters tries not to take risks in order to avoid mistakes and underestimation.

— I wouldn’t say that the level of figure skating is falling. When girls get older, of course, it becomes much more difficult for them: the body changes, the shape changes, and it is much more difficult to jump on a quad, naturally. And those girls who are still young and have not yet started to take shape, it is easier for them.

Do you know how many young girls there are now doing quadruple jumps? A lot in fact. Therefore, I don’t think the level of skating is dropping technically. As girls grow, they lose the ability to perform strong jumps; it’s normal and natural. That’s all. I wouldn’t say that the level of figure skating has gone down in technical terms. On the contrary, he grew up among the juniors. Because very many people are now jumping on quads,” Zheleznyakov told Metaratings.ru.

On November 19, Zheleznyakov announced that he had voluntarily left the group of figure skating coach Eteri Tutberidze. He worked with Tutberidze throughout his career in Russia.
