Olympic medalist Yevgeny Korotyshkin said that in Russia there would be athletes capable of updating the European record at a distance of 100 meters butterfly.
This record belonged to Korotyshkin (48.48), but at the European Short Course Championships in the Romanian town of Otopeni he was beaten by Swiss Noe Ponti (48.47).
– Classy, I didn’t expect that from a Swiss, we have never been so fast, but without our participation, apparently, they completely loosened their belts and spread their wings. Records exist to be broken, which means that world swimming is growing and I think we will soon have people breaking that record. Minakov can do it, Petya Zhikharev will recover and can do it. I will do everything so that in Moscow we grow up athletes who break European and world records.
— The winner has a big gap compared to Kliment Kolesnikov’s 50m backstroke record. What does that mean?
– The results are basically fast – both in 100 m glute and 50 m back, but in Europe Clement does not have such competition now, in the world it is higher.
— Anastasia Kirpichnikova won the 800m, how do you perceive her result?
— Well done, determined, hardworking, I know her, we talked. I am a former athlete and I live for sports. And I advocate that the results move forward. It doesn’t matter by whom and in what capacity,” Korotyshkin told .
Russian athletes have been suspended from competitions organized under the auspices of the European Swimming Association due to the situation in Ukraine.
