Russian world record Kliment Kolesnikov survived the 50 meter backstroke at the European Short Course Swimming Championships.
Kolesnikov set this record in 2022 – 22.11 seconds. At the European Championships which take place in Otopen in Romania, this distance was won by a Frenchman Meven Tomac – 22.84.
Swiss Noah Ponti in the final he broke the European record in the 100m butterfly – 48.47. Previously, the feat belonged to Evgeny Korotyshkin (48.48).
Anastasia Kirpichnikova won the 800m freestyle (8:08.48), after changing her sporting citizenship from Russian to French.
Russian athletes have been suspended from competitions organized under the auspices of the European Swimming Association due to the situation in Ukraine.
