American figure skater Ilya Malinin showed the best result in the short program at the final of the ISU Grand Prix, which takes place in Beijing (China).
For his skating, the 19-year-old skater received 106.90 points. Malinin was the first in history to cleanly execute a 4.5-turn axel during a short program; the judges counted this element.
Next came the representatives of Japan – Shoma Uno, who scored 106.02 points, and Yuma Kagiyama (103.72). On Saturday, December 9, the men will perform a free skate.
Malinin was born in the United States to the family of Russian figure skaters Tatyana Malinina and Roman Skornyakov. They performed at union and Russian tournaments, and then represented Uzbekistan.
