The president of World Athletics reacted to the admission of Russians to the Paris Olympics in neutral status

World Athletics Federation President Sebastian Coe said that priority for admitting Russian and Belarusian athletes to the Paris Olympics belongs to international federations.

On Friday, the IOC announced it would allow Russian and Belarusian athletes who successfully qualified for the 2024 Olympics to have neutral status as individual athletes.

“I think the decision indicates the primacy of international federations in making such judgments. It looks like a pyramid, doesn’t it? Priority in the admission and selection of athletes belongs to the international federation. So we have a fixed position that has not changed. “I think it’s right for the international federation to make decisions that they believe are in the best interests of their sport,” Coe told a news conference.

The Paris Olympic Games will take place from July 26 to August 11, 2024.
