Since November 2015, the VFLA has been stripped of its World Athletics (then IAAF) membership amid a doping scandal. Russians can participate in international competitions only after obtaining neutral athlete status. In March, World Athletics suspended Russians and Belarusians from participating in competitions due to the situation in Ukraine. Russian athletes are also not allowed to participate in the Diamond League stages.
