Solution International Olympic Committee (IOC) on the admission of Russian athletes to the Olympic Games still seems formal, the two-time Olympic swimming champion told Evgeny Rylov .
The International Olympic Committee has decided to admit Russians in individual neutral status to the 2024 Games in Paris. Swimmers must qualify for the Games by obtaining neutral status from World Aquatics, the conditions of which are considered unacceptable by the All-Russian Swimming Federation.
— So far the IOC’s decision seems formal, so they can see that they allowed it, they made a decision to make the story of our admission look good from the outside. But ultimately, that doesn’t change anything.
— So you are not changing your decision on neutral status either?
“I don’t see that it’s possible to get neutral status by agreeing to sign something and go against the country.”
— What are the plans now? Salnikov Cup?
“Yes, I am preparing for it,” Rylov told .
At the end of March 2023, the IOC announced recommendations for the admission of Russian and Belarusian athletes to international competitions. These include individual admission, neutral status, banning participation in team sports, and banning participation of athletes associated with security forces or who have expressed support for the SVO. The same requirements now apply to the Olympic Games.
Previously, the IOC Executive Committee suspended the membership of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC). In Paris, Russian and Belarusian athletes can only compete in neutral individual status (AIN), without flags, anthems and other national symbols.
The Paris Olympic Games will take place from July 26 to August 11, 2024.
