American figure skater Ilya Malinin won the final of the ISU Grand Prix, which takes place in Beijing (China).
In total, the 19-year-old athlete received 314.66 points for both programs. In the short program, Malinin was the first in history to cleanly execute an axel of 4.5 turns; the judges counted this element.
The second was the Japanese Shoma Uno (297.34 points), the leading trio was closed by his compatriot Yuma Kagiyama (288.65).
Malinin was born in the United States to the family of Russian figure skaters Tatyana Malinina and Roman Skornyakov. They performed at union and Russian tournaments, and then represented Uzbekistan.
