The head of the organizing committee for the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, Tony Estanguet, said he welcomed the decision of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to allow Russian athletes to participate in the tournament with a neutral status.
On December 8, the IOC announced that it would grant neutral status as individual athletes to Russian and Belarusian athletes who successfully qualified for the 2024 Olympic Games. At the same time, all athletes must accept the charter set up-to-date, which speaks to the peaceful objectives of the Olympic movement.
“As an organizing committee, we welcome and respect this decision. We will welcome the participation of these athletes in accordance with the specified rules: i.e. no flags, anthems, officials and team sports. These delegations will therefore be very small, but Paris 2024 will welcome them,” Estanguet told Reuters.
The Paris Olympic Games will take place from July 26 to August 11, 2024.
