President of the Russian Fencing Federation Ilgar Mamedov said that the winners of the Russian Grand Prix fencing series will receive prize money in the amount of 500,000 rubles.
The saber fencing season began with an all-Russian tournament in Nizhny Novgorod, 2016 Olympic champion Yana Yegoryan and 2016 world team champion Dmitry Danilenko won the individual competition. Shooters from the Novosibirsk region, led by Sofia Pozdnyakova, excelled in the team tournament.
— Leaving Nizhny Novgorod was largely an adjustment. However, starting January 1, the status of these tournaments will change. They will become stages of the national Grand Prix series with a solid bonus fund. In particular, a cash prize in the amount of 500,000 rubles is provided for first place in the general ranking.
Three stages are provided for each type of weapon. The results of the Russian Championship and the National Cup will also be taken into account in the general ranking. Since we cannot participate in the World Cup stages, we will organize our own schedule,” Mamedov was quoted as saying by the press service of the Russian Olympic Committee.
