Salnikov on swimmer Rylov’s decision not to compete in 2024 Olympics: ‘A completely normal reaction’

Refusal of the double Olympic swimming champion Evgenia Rylova participating in the 2024 Olympics is a normal reaction to the current admission conditions, said the president of the All-Russian Swimming Federation Vladimir Salnikov .

On Sunday, Rylov said on that he was not going to follow the example of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and refused to travel to the Paris Olympics.

– I didn’t expect anything else. I think this is a completely normal reaction to the conditions presented to us. I don’t understand why athletes should suffer humiliation by accepting such admission requirements.

— So there are still no people who want to participate in the Paris Games at all costs?

“There was no indication that there would be many such people. » I always said that if there were, it would only be a few. This reaction is therefore natural.

— There is still no response from World Aquatics to the general letter on admission criteria?

“No, we haven’t received an answer yet,” Salnikov told .

On December 8, the IOC announced that it would allow Russian and Belarusian athletes who successfully qualified for the 2024 Summer Olympics to have individual neutral status. In Paris, Russian and Belarusian athletes can only compete without a flag, anthem and other national symbols. The IOC banned the participation of athletes associated with security forces or who have expressed support for the CBO.

The Paris Olympic Games will take place from July 26 to August 11, 2024.
