Swimmer Fesikov: “I came to the Salnikov Cup as a spectator, I don’t miss the competitive spirit”

Olympic bronze medalist Sergei Fesikov told that after retiring he would not miss participating in competitions.

At the Russian Championships in late November, Fesikov announced his retirement. From December 16 to 18, the Vladimir Salnikov Cup takes place in Saint Petersburg.

— This is the 17th Salnikov Cup. I was at the very beginning of the tournament. The competitions have changed, they have become more spectacular. In current realities, of course, there is not enough competition in the form of foreign swimmers. But fortunately, there are friendly countries that are happy to come here. The tournament is necessary for athletes so that they can play with pleasure, more relaxed and enjoy the period before the New Year. It is very good when you have no responsibilities and can go out and show the best result.

— Don’t you miss the competitive spirit? Maybe you want to dive into the water?

– Honestly no. This is my first tournament as a spectator. I’m rooting for the guys I competed with less than a month ago. I watched the tournament from a different perspective, that of an older comrade. It’s a new experience for me, but I don’t miss the competitive spirit,” Fesikov told .

Watch the final stages of the Salnikov Cup these minutes on TV channels “Match! Country” and “Match! Planet”, as well as the sites matchtv.ru and sportbox.ru.
