Figure skater Alina Gorbacheva admitted to being surprised by the Olympic champion’s results Kamila Valieva during the Russian Grand Prix stage in Kazan, where she finished fourth.

At the Kazan Stadium, Valieva was first after the short program, but took 4th place in the total programs. Gorbacheva took the final second place, losing only to Sofya Muravyova.

— Did you think some time ago that already this season you would be able to compete on equal terms with Eteri Tutberidze’s students and even beat them?

– Of course, I tried hard to achieve this. Nothing is impossible. You just have to work hard, not feel sorry for yourself, listen to the coaches. They’re just girls like everyone else. They plow and devote themselves entirely to sport. That’s why I think they have such results. Why can’t we do the same?

Valieva is an Olympic champion in team competitions and a European champion.
