“Only a few are pleasant to look at.” Kogan – about foreign figure skaters

Some foreign figure skaters can take advantage of the complexity of modern programs, said the general director of the Russian Figure Skating Federation (FFKKR). Alexander Kogan .

In 2022, the International Skating Union (ISU) accepted the organization’s council’s proposal to increase the minimum age of skaters for admission to adult competitions to 17 years old from the 2024/25 season .

— Don’t you think it’s worth simplifying programs for women? The Russians are already leaders in this area.

— We now have strong competition. There were more than 70 women on the stages of the Russian Grand Prix. The second part of our story is that the ISU has increased the age of adult athletes to 17 years old. Traditionally, our country and our federation, to stay one step ahead, have decided to authorize participation in competitions from the age of 16. This is what we adhere to.

Why should we exclude juniors? We will have so many unique athletes that they simply cannot coexist. There are only three places, we will simply stop the development of junior skating. There are some foreign figure skaters that are fun to watch and won’t make 30 year old content. Jump two double jumps? For us, Slutskaya played brilliantly. Do we want to go back exclusively to triple jumps? We can come back to three or two. You have to understand that figure skating is a sport. And here there must be criteria that will allow us to see the surpassing of possibilities. “We look at men doing quads and don’t think about restoring the content of 20 years ago,” reports a correspondent, reporting Kogan’s comments.
