In a season or two, Russian figure skaters will be competitive with world leaders, said the acting president of the Russian Figure Skating Federation (FFKKR). Anton Sikharulidze .
Currently, Russian athletes are suspended from participation in international competitions under the auspices of the International Skating Union due to the situation in Ukraine. In October, the ISU confirmed the decision to suspend the Russians.
“We are seeing progress in men’s individual skating; we have three or four athletes who have improved their skills. But if we focus on the international scene, there is Ilya Malinin and two Japanese who, given equal net performance, will beat our guys. But the level of our guys’ programs is increasing. In a season or two, our men will be competitive,” reports a correspondent, reporting Sikharulidze’s words.
From December 20 to 24, the Russian Figure Skating Championship will be held in Chelyabinsk.
