President of the Russian Cycling Federation Vyacheslav Ekimov told that the decision of the European Cycling Union (UEC) to refuse Russian athletes participation in the European Track Championships with a neutral status contradicts the position of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the Union International Cyclist (UCI).
On Friday, the UEC sent a letter to neutral Russian cyclists with the decision to refuse participation in the European Track Championships in the Netherlands, citing a statement by the Dutch Minister of Sports, which in turn refers to the government of country.
— This decision contradicts the decisions of the IOC and the UCI. The riders further request information, on the basis of which their request was refused. All the requirements of the international federation (UCI) have been fulfilled,” Ekimov told .
The neutral status of the UCI allows Russians to participate in major competitions under the auspices of this organization. In particular, in 2023, Russian athletes participated in the Junior World Championships.
The Track Cycling World Championships will take place January 10-14 in Apeldoorn, Netherlands.
