The Netherlands has refused to allow Russian cyclists to participate in the European Track Cycling Championships, even in neutral status.

Russian cyclists, even in neutral status, will not be able to participate in the European Track Cycling Championships in January in the Netherlands.

The European Cycling Union (UEC) sent a letter to neutral cyclists with this decision, citing a statement from the Dutch Minister of Sports, who in turn refers to the country’s government.

“Our position has been and remains the same: Russians and Belarusians should be banned from participating in international sports competitions, regardless of the flag under which they compete. In fact, the Dutch government does not support the idea of athletes from Russia and Belarus competing as neutral athletes, says the letter the athletes received.

The neutral status of the UCI allows Russians to participate in major competitions under the auspices of this organization. In particular, in 2023, Russian athletes participated in the Junior World Championships.

The Track Cycling World Championships will take place January 10-14 in Apeldoorn, Netherlands.
