Russian volleyball will win even more medals when the International Olympic Committee (IOC) stops being weak and giving in to pressure, said Nikolai Patrushev, chairman of the supervisory board of the All-Russian Volleyball Federation (VFV).
On Friday, a gala evening dedicated to the centenary of Russian volleyball will take place.
— Our festival has acquired national importance. On April 12, the Russian president signed a decree celebrating the centenary of Russian volleyball. And this gave impetus to the development of volleyball. And our merits are very serious. 71 medals were won in world and European competitions. No other sport in our country achieves such a feat. We will win more medals when the IOC stops being weak and we will become stronger when it stops giving in to pressure. We are improving our material base, which attracts more people who want to play volleyball to us. In our country, two million 400 thousand people play volleyball,” reports correspondent, according to Patrushev’s words.
On December 8, the IOC announced that it would grant neutral status to Russian and Belarusian athletes who successfully qualified for the 2024 Summer Olympics. Russian athletes will be able to perform in Paris without a flag, anthem and other national symbols. The IOC banned the participation of athletes associated with security forces or who had expressed support for the SVO.
