You cannot exchange the flag and the national anthem, this violates the rules of the Olympic movement, said the head coach of the Russian men’s volleyball team, Konstantin Bryansky.
On December 8, the IOC announced that it would allow Russian and Belarusian athletes who successfully qualified for the 2024 Summer Olympics to have individual neutral status. Russian athletes will be able to perform in Paris without a flag, anthem and other national symbols. The IOC banned the participation of athletes associated with security forces or who have expressed support for the SVO, as well as participation in team sports.
“First of all, we look forward to our team’s return to international competitions next year. I still hope that this will happen and will happen in the near future. And if we talk about the Russian Championship, now this more than compensates for the lack of matches. In itself, it is very interesting and beautiful. Many interesting teams and players are born in these competitions. I only expect development from next year.
— Team sports are not allowed at the Olympic Games. Do you think the situation will change and that volleyball players will be allowed to enter Paris?
— In Paris, it’s probably unlikely. Even if the political situation sometimes evolves quickly, everything is linked to it and not to our will. Our team is 100 percent ready and ready to participate (in the Olympics) even tomorrow.
— How do you perceive these conditions from the IOC?
— I perceive them negatively. As a first step, there should in principle be no trading in the flag and the anthem, because this violates the rules of the Olympic movement. That’s why I wanted them to treat us more fairly and we are waiting for our team to return to the international arena,” reports correspondent, reporting Bryansky’s words.
Russian volleyball teams and clubs continue to be suspended from international competitions due to the situation in Ukraine.
