The champion of the World Games 2022 shared her impressions of the atmosphere in Birmingham, USA
Ukrainian karateka, champion of the World Games 2022, Angelica Terlyuga spoke about the support of Ukraine by the Americans.
“I was amazed at how every American or American I came into contact with treated us. Even the girl who helped us at the hotel where we had our training camp. She was friendly, open, did everything we asked of her,” said Terlyuga.
“I have a friend from the USA. She competed in a karate tournament. And she sent me a photo of her son going to school with a backpack, on which he put a flag of Ukraine. Her street in Chicago is filled with Ukrainian flags.”
“The atmosphere in Birmingham is incredible. We are very grateful for the support. It’s incredible.”
“Because the moment it all started (the war), you’re in a panic, you don’t know what to do, you feel like you’re in a bad movie. I wish it was a movie, but pardon the word, this is our fucking life.”
“It has become the norm for me to hear the siren, I know how air defense works, how it sounds, I have seen it work from the balcony dozens of times. I know how a rocket flies, I also saw it with my own eyes. I know people who died in my region when a rocket hit their house.”
“This is just genocide. I don’t know how to describe it. If the whole world supports us like you, like the USA, I am sure that we will win faster. I’m sure we will win. But with this support, we will win faster.”
“And all these medals now are nothing to me, it doesn’t matter. I’m just glad that I can give at least a little joy to my loved ones, my family, my country. But I’m willing to sacrifice it all, everything I have, just to stop it.”
Recall that Terlyuga became the champion of the 2022 World Karate Games. In the final fight, she defeated the world champion Ahlam Youssef from Egypt (1:0).
