Milan intends to revoke Gabbia’s loan from Villarreal and enter the market in search of another defender

The Rossoneri are in deep trouble in central defense following Tomori’s injury.

Milan plans to add two central defenders to the squad in January. One of them is expected to be Matteo Gabbiawhich belongs to the Rossoneri, but plays on loan for Villarreal.

The situation in the center of defense for Stefano Pioli’s team is close to catastrophic. Previously, Malik Tchau and Pierre Calulu left for a long time (both will be out until at least February). Also in the hospital is substitute Marco Pellegrino. Simon Kjaer has only recently recovered, but the 34-year-old Dane’s form leaves much to be desired.

Another blow was the injury of Fikayo Tomori, which he received during the away match against Salernitana (2:2) on December 22. In that match, the Englishman opened the scoring, but in the second half he was forced to leave the field due to injury.

24-year-old Gabbia is a graduate of Milan. For the first team of the red-blacks, he played a total of 51 matches and scored one goal. In the summer, the defender was rented by Villarreal – the agreement was valid until the end of the current season and did not include the possibility of a buyout.

As part of the Yellow Submarine, the Italian played as a starter in the Europa League (6 matches, five of them full), but at the same time he appeared in Primera matches irregularly – only seven times, the last of them in early November.

After 17 rounds, Milan scored 33 points and is in third place in Serie A. In the next round, Pioli’s team will host Sassuolo on December 30.
