“Death is not scary, it is scary to remain disabled” – Kostomarov

Olympic figure skating champion Roman Kostomarov urged people to be more attentive to their health.

In 2023, Kostomarov underwent several amputations after being hospitalized in January. The former skater underwent prosthetic surgery, and in December he appeared on the ice on skates, participating in Ilya Averbukh’s show.

“What happened on January 10, 2023 was the end of the world for me, even if I didn’t understand anything. At one point I just fell asleep for a long time and was in a coma. All the terrible events that happened to me were experienced mainly by those close to me. Thanks to my wife and my mother, my family and my friends. The pain I didn’t feel, they felt. When I came to my senses, I realized that something terrible had happened. Especially when many surgeons gathered and informed me that it was necessary to amputate the limbs. It was a terrible blow. Because I’m an athlete, I didn’t understand how I was going to continue living, I was losing everything.

It was a terrible blow, after which I asked myself for a long time: “Why? Why?” But my beloved wife said that we will get out of this swamp, we will find a way forward. I can only wish you good health and may this not happen to anyone. If you get sick, don’t think it will go away by chance. Better to play it safe. I thought I was the healthiest person. I knew people die of pneumonia, colds, but losing limbs… Death doesn’t “It’s not scary, it’s scary to remain disabled. Take care of yourself,” Kostomarov said as part of the VK conference.
