Skaters Irina Khavronina and David Narizhny, performing as an ice dance duo, talked about the performances of other duos that stand out this season.
Khavronina and Narizhny, who teamed up this year, scored 198.90 points in total in two programs at the Russian Figure Skating Championships in Chelyabinsk on Friday and won bronze medals at the tournament. Alexandra Stepanova and Ivan Bukin took first place (217.72), second place went to Elizaveta Khudaiberdieva and Yegor Bazin (204.90).
Khavronina: I really like the free program between Vanya (Bukin) and Sasha (Stepanova). Very sensual, the music is beautiful, the guys live it. I see. Among the internationals, I liked Madison Chock with Evan Bates, it’s interesting. And I really liked “Les Hauts de Hurlevent” by Gilles/Poirier, very musical too. The free program of the Italians is very beautiful, it is very coordinated, their skills are fully revealed in this program.
Narizhny: I can’t single out anyone in particular among the dancers. I remember the competition 10 years ago between Davis/White and Virtue/Moir, some were crazy, some were crazy, then Papadakis/Cizeron was added with their something new. Now there’s nothing new for me, just older guys who have served their time and are fighting for a few medals. I don’t see what was there before. Ira named three programs, I agree with her. The Italians have a very nice free program. Gilles/Poirier’s free skate is unusual, but they skate in their own style. It’s very subjective, not everyone likes it, but they are original, they always have very interesting elements – they are very different in that. They have cool approaches, they usually do crazy twizzles on different legs. They’re cool, but it’s not what it was before when there were these three couples.
