Olympic figure skating champion Roman Kostomarov said he rethought life values after undergoing operations.
In 2023, Kostomarov underwent several amputations after being hospitalized in January. The former skater underwent prosthetic surgery, and in December he appeared on the ice on skates, participating in Ilya Averbukh’s show.
– After what happened to me, I started to live for today, to enjoy what I have. There is a family, children for whom life is worth living. Every day when I wake up, I find the strength to overcome things I never thought about before. Wash yourself, brush your teeth, scratch behind your ear, comb your hair. Every day is a victory over yourself. Just like winning in sports brings gold, so does it in life. The values have just changed. Reassessment of life. I woke up, I’m glad it’s snowing, it’s freezing. This pleases me. Two years ago, because of a trifle, an incomprehensible depression set in, I don’t know what to do, I’m bored. Now I’m not bored at all, life has changed. You have to overcome yourself, move forward, love your life. It is given once,” Kostomarov said during a lecture at the VK conference hall.
