Pidruchny: I feel that my form is “late” for a month and a half

The men’s team prepare for the season in Oberhof, Germany

Captain of the Ukrainian men’s biathlon team Dmitry Pidruchny spoke about the difficulties of preparing for the new season.

“Once a week they let me go home, and I ran so that at least for an hour my heart and muscles would remember what a load is. I also got sick with COVID-19, so I only started training in mid-May and the first workouts were very hard. However, step by step, we are now trying to restore the form in order to return to the previous level. I feel that my form is “late” by a month and a half from what I usually had during this period. But I already feel the rhythm and start catching up with the guys.”

“Of course, everything that happens at home cannot but affect the mood. You know that there is a war going on and people are dying, that the Armed Forces of Ukraine stand as a wall and give us the opportunity to train. But you go to training and you think about what you need to do now, focusing your attention on it.

Recall that six biathletes of the national team: Dmitry Pidruchny, Artem Prima, Bogdan Tsymbal, Anton Dudchenko, Taras Lesyuk, Denis Nasyko and Daria Blashko, who works in the men’s team, are holding the second training camp in Oberhof. The first training camp took place in Syanki (Lviv region).

Earlier, Pidruchny joined the Ukrainian biathlon team at a training camp in Syanki. The biathlete arrived at the training camp later than other Ukrainians, having received permission to be released from the National Guard.

The new season of the Biathlon World Cup starts on November 29 with a stage in Finnish Kontiolahti. The German Oberhof will host the World Championship in February next year.
