The mentor’s task for the second round is to avoid relegation and transition matches
New head coach Metalist 1925 Victor Skripnik spoke about the tasks for the second part of the season, and also shared plans for the development of the team.
“I had other proposals, but I know the people working at Metalist 1925 well. The key thing was that I didn’t want to stand aside from what was developing. I talked with the management and met the president of the club, Vladimir Nosov. What I heard from him and understood that Metalist 1925 is an ambitious project, such things attract. I don’t want to watch something develop somewhere, but without you. This, one might say, became the key. I have never been afraid of challenges and I am not afraid. The more complex, the more interesting. I always say this to both the coaching staff and the players.”
“It is not only an honor to participate in this ambitious development, but also a desire. We don’t just want to stay in the UPL and next year again have the task of not being relegated. If we want to build something, we have to take it.”
“In the situation we have now, we cannot say goodbye to 15 of the 30 players that are on the team and invite 15 new ones. Although, perhaps someone does this. However, I want to meet everyone. We have the second part of the championship to solve the problem of avoiding “validated” matches, and then decide what kind of reinforcement is needed. What I saw when I played against Metalist 1925 and what I saw from the inside are two very different things. That’s why I need time. It takes a month, two, three, and then the championship will end. Therefore, we must first do the necessary things so that we can finish this season calmly. And then make the right decisions regarding players, regarding positions.”
“Although, of course, we discussed that we will develop, we are strengthening. What sounds like “develop” is one of the most important, because the system always works. The system is not when you have money and you just buy, although someone does that, but when you are planning a long journey, then you need an academy, a school.”
Let us remind you that on December 20, Metalist 1925 officially announced the appointment of 54-year-old Skripnik to the post of head coach of the team. The contract with the mentor is for three years. Skripnik’s coaching staff will include Grigory Yarmash, Sergei Popov and Artemy Chernyshev.
At the same time, it was reported that the team’s ex-head coach Oleg Golodyuk will remain working in the club’s structure. And Maxim Tsvirenko, Sergei Volvakov and Andrei Shabalin will continue to work at Skripnik’s headquarters.
After 17 rounds of the UPL, Metalist 1925, having scored 15 points, is in 12th place in the table, one point above the zone of transition matches. At the same time, the Kharkiv team lost their last five matches with a total score of 6:15.
In the 18th round, Metalist 1925 will play against Dynamo in a nominally home match. The base date of the tour is February 24.
