Olympic figure skating champion Maxim Trankov says that Romana Kostomarova can rightfully be recognized as the athlete of the year in Russia, because he showed willpower.
Last week, the general director of the All-Russian Center for the Study of Public Opinion (VTsIOM), Valery Fedorov, said that Kostomarov had been named athlete of the year.
— Roman Kostomarov, rightfully, even if not for his achievements and sporting exploits, can be considered the athlete of the year in Russia! He is an example of sporting will, and he fully deserves this title,” Trankov said according to Sport24.
At the beginning of the year, Roman Kostomarov, 46, was hospitalized for a severe form of pneumonia: following tissue necrosis, he underwent partial amputation of his arms and legs. On December 17, the skater took to the ice for the first time, performing two numbers at Ilya Averbukh’s anniversary show.
