Obolon’s coach believes that the team managed to show itself as competitive, but it needs reinforcement to solve problems
Head coach Obolon Valery Ivashchenko commented on the results of the first half of the season for his team and spoke about plans and objectives for 2024.
“Many experts did not expect the result that we have. At the beginning of the championship, everyone said that Obolon would be somewhere in last place after the first round. We refuted this and proved with our performance that the team can compete with others and achieve good results.”
“Not everything worked out in the matches, we could both lose and win, but this is football. I have already said that this is a certain lack of experience of both the coaching staff and the players. Therefore, we all have something to work on. You always want to go up, I think that this is not our final position. We will do everything possible, we need to prepare well in order to gain a foothold higher in the standings.”
“Of course, we would like to gain strength; in the first round it was noticeable. Healthy competition in the team helps football players to work at 100%. That’s why we want to strengthen ourselves in the winter and are now actively working on this.”
“Since the beginning of the season, we have had the task of gaining a foothold in the top ten. I think this would be a very successful result, as for a UPL newcomer. To do this, we need to work well at the training camps that we have planned and strengthen certain positions.”
Obolon ranks 13th in the UPL (zone of transition matches), gaining 14 points. In the first match of the spring part of the championship, the Kiev team will host Chernomorets. The base date is February 24.
