Handball Federation of Ukraine announced the winners of the voting “The best handball player of Ukraine-2023”. The winner was the playmaker of our national team and the Hungarian Alba Fehervar Tamara Smbatyan.
Tamara played in all 12 matches of the Ukrainian national team during 2023 and became the top scorer of the national team during this period – 51 goals. Including 17 goals in four Euro 2024 qualifying matches, as well as 25 goals in six matches (the best figure among Ukrainians) for the 2023 World Cup.
Smbatyan scored 53 points in the voting, six points ahead of welterweight Irina Glebko, club representative Rimnica Valcea (Romania). Third place was taken by Marina Konovalova, left extreme Galician.
Let us remind you that at the World Championships, which took place in the Scandinavian countries from November 29 to December 17, 2023, the Ukrainian women’s team made it to the main round for the first time in 18 years, but took last place there.
At the end of February 2024, the blue-yellows will continue their journey in the qualifying stage of the 2024 European Championship. Our team, which previously lost to Germany and beat Slovakia, will face the Israeli team.
