Choreographer Nikolai Moroshkin works with figure skater Peter Gumennik explains how decisions are made regarding the choice of music for an athlete’s programs.
At the start of the season, Gumennik was forced to abandon the use of Rammstein’s song in the musical accompaniment of the short program after a letter to the Russian Ministry of Sports and the Russian Figure Skating Federation. Subsequently, at competitions he performed a cover of a song performed by the Russian group Radio Tapok. At the Russian Championship held in Chelyabinsk in December, Gumennik took third place.
— He loves industrial metal, often plays this music during his workouts, it charges him with energy. For my part, I found these options which, in my opinion, can be used in figure skating. Our first test took place at the Tutberidze salon, it turned out great. I saw that he lives in music and he feels it.
You can always see when someone was involved in selecting the music and image for themselves, and it always works 100%. The music should please the performer and should not be imposed,” Moroshkin was quoted as saying by “Championship.”
