The Volleyball Federation of Ukraine demands the resignation of EKV President Borichic

The Serbian functionary allowed Russians and Belarusians to attend the General Assembly meeting, and in December he went to Moscow

Volleyball Federation of Ukraine (FVU) demands the president’s resignation European Volleyball Confederation (EVC) Aleksandar Boricic. The FVU called the Serbian functionary’s trip to Moscow for celebrations dedicated to Russian volleyball immoral.

“On December 28, 2023, EKV President Aleksandar Borichic, together with a number of representatives of national associations of other countries, took part in the celebrations dedicated to the 100th anniversary of Russian volleyball in the Russian capital, Moscow. The FVU is shocked by what happened and considers Mr. Boricic’s actions immoral from all points of view.”

“Previously, Mr. Borichic visited Ukraine twice on working visits, which helped raise the authority of the game and attract attention to it in our country. For this, the FVU is grateful to Alexander Borichic personally and to the ECV in general.”

“The ECV, as well as the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB), suspended the Russian federation and the Republic of Belarus from all official events under their auspices in response to the full-scale war unleashed on the territory of the independent sovereign state of Ukraine on February 24, 2022. Such a gesture is also a manifestation of exceptional support for our state at the most critical moments in its history.”

“However, on September 2, 2023, the annual General Assembly of the ECV was held in Brussels, in which, without prior approval, representatives of Russia and Belarus were admitted. As a sign of protest, representatives of five countries – Poland, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia and Ukraine – refused to participate in the General Assembly. And now, on December 28, Aleksandar Borichic goes to Moscow and takes part in the celebration of the 100th anniversary of Russian volleyball.”

“The FWU is convinced that by visiting the Russian Federation during the war unleashed by the Russians – the largest since the times of 1939-1945 – Aleksandar Borichic violated all moral standards, and by supporting the aggressor he humiliated Ukraine, Ukrainians and the entire free world. When the lives of millions of people and the existence of the second largest European state are at stake, supporting the aggressor is immoral. Accordingly, the FVU calls on Alexander Borichic, after such an act, so as not to spoil the authority of volleyball, to leave the post of president of the EKV.”

Early in the morning of February 24, 2022, Russia fired rockets and aerial bombardment of most Ukrainian cities, and then launched a full-scale military invasion. The war against Russia has continued for the 676th day.
