Rebrov: It’s impossible to fully concentrate on the celebration, because people are dying every day in our country

The head coach of the Ukrainian national team congratulated his country on the New Year and expressed gratitude to the Ukrainian Armed Forces

Head coach Ukrainian national team Sergey Rebrov delivered New Year’s greetings, noting that the enemy, through incessant shelling of the territory of Ukraine, does not allow the feeling of the holiday to fully take place.

“Happy New Year to everyone! Although today is a holiday, unfortunately, it is very much overshadowed by the events of this year.”

“Just like this time a year ago, it is impossible to fully focus on the celebrations because people are dying every day in our country – from our warriors on the front lines to ordinary civilians in their homes – directly because of Russia’s actions. The massive shelling across Ukraine just two days ago, which led to the further death of many innocent people, continues to remind us of this.”

“As always, I express my gratitude to the Armed Forces of Ukraine, volunteers and all the people who help maintain the sovereignty of the country and the safety of as many people as possible. We continue to support and believe in them and hope for the best. Glory to Ukraine! Glory to the Ukrainian Armed Forces!”

Let us remind you that Rebrov took over as head coach of the Ukrainian national team on June 7. Under his leadership, the blue-and-yellows played eight matches, won four games and lost only once (Away to Italy 1:2).

Ukraine, under the leadership of the current coach, failed to directly qualify for the 2024 European Championship. Now Rebrov’s team faces the March clashes. Our team’s first opponent will be the national team of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The meeting will take place on March 21, 2024 in the city of Zenica, at the Bilino Pole stadium.

During the night and morning of December 29, Russia, according to official data, fired 158 missiles and drones into Ukraine. The Ukrainian air force destroyed 114 targets.

According to the head of the NOC of Ukraine, Vadim Gutzeit, during the full-scale war, more than 400 Ukrainian athletes were killed and about 500 sports facilities were destroyed.

Early in the morning of February 24, 2022, Russia fired rockets and aerial bombardment of most Ukrainian cities, and then launched a full-scale military invasion. The war against Russia has continued for the 676th day.
