The International Cycling Union (UCI) issued 43 neutral statuses to Russians in seven months, according to documents published on the official UCI website. During the same period, 26 Belarusians were added to the approved list.
Ten Russian support staff have also received authorization from the international federation, who can accompany athletes competing individually and in neutral status during competitions.
Previously, the UCI refused neutral status to four Russian cyclists – Alexey Obydennov, Anastasia Voinova , Maria Novolodskaya and Danila Burlakov – due to non-compliance with admission recommendations.
In May 2023, the UCI announced that it was ready to allow Russian athletes to participate in major competitions under its auspices, including the World Championships, from June 1, following recommendations from the International Olympic Committee (IOC) .
