In 2018, the New Zealander lost to AJ by unanimous decision
David Higginspromoter of former WBO heavyweight champion Joseph Parker (34-3, 23 KOs), hopes to organize a rematch of the New Zealander with Anthony Joshua (27-3, 24 KOs). The manager believes that his ward deserves another fight with AJ.
“Joseph deserves a rematch with Joshua and the Saudis will see benefits from Parker versus AJ. It may not be the next fight, there may be a little more work to be done, but I think this is the fight the fans want to see. This is a merit-based fight.”
“As far as opponents go, Joseph will fight anyone. If you look at all the names on his resume including Chisora twice, Joyce, Joshua, Wilder, Whyte, the list goes on and he is only 31 years old. We’ll fight Joshua in a heartbeat. Everyone knows Joseph is ready to fight Anthony next, but I’m not sure that’s an option. Let’s see what happens.”
The first fight between Parker and Joshua took place on March 31, 2018. Anthony defeated the New Zealander by unanimous decision to unify the WBA Super, IBF, WBO and IBO titles.
At the end of December, Parker and Joshua fought as part of the “Day of Reckoning” boxing evening in Riyadh. Joseph defeated Deontay Wilder by unanimous decision, and Anthony confidently dealt with Otto Wallin.
Joshua’s next fight is scheduled for March in Saudi Arabia. According to Eddie Hearn, the Briton’s potential opponents include mandatory challenger for the IBF heavyweight title Filip Hrgovic, WBO interim belt holder Zhang Zhilei and former UFC champion Francis Ngannou.
